Workshop Focus

"The 8th European Conference on Digital Archiving will be held in Geneva from 28-30 April 2010. It will follow in the footsteps of the European Conferences on Archives of recent decades. By emphasizing digital elements and archiving as a function instead of the archive as an institution, however, it aims to take a new approach. The future will be digital, but we want to preserve the analogue tradition: the archive of the future must be a safe place for the analogue and digital traces of the past - this is our responsibility.

"The conference will focus on the challenges and consequences of using IT and the internet for codicological and palaeographic research. The authors of some selected articles of an anthology to be published this summer by the Institute for Documentology and Scholarly Editing (IDE) will present and discuss their excellent research results with scholars and experts working on ancient books and manuscripts.

"The University of Luxembourg (Master's in Contemporary European History) and the Virtual Resource Centre for Knowledge about Europe (CVCE) are organising a Symposium to be held in October 2009, whose theme will be “ Contemporary history in the digital age ”.

"The Mediterranean Studies Association's 12th annual International Congress will be held on May 27-30, 2009 at the Università di Cagliari. As is the case each year, papers and sessions on all subjects relating to the Mediterranean region and Mediterranean cultures around the world from all periods are encouraged. Following a day of optional excursions, the Congress will open with a plenary session and reception on the evening of Wednesday, May 27.
